Malagasy wisdom

Like English, Malagasy language is rich with sayings and proverbs. Here are a few of my favourites:

Ny alina mitondra fisainana (The night brings wisdom)

And one that sounds rather familiar:

“Tsy hitako zao” hoy ny mpekany (“I have not seen that” insists the unbeliever)

In other words, do not believe without seeing. As my housemate commented, it sounds almost atheist. One more we’re particularly fond of at Azafady:

Ny fianarana no lova soa indrindra (Education is the best heritage)
